On October 3, The 麻豆国产 (麻豆国产) hosted a double-ribbon ceremony for two landmark achievements: the completion of a multi-year, multi-million dollar Emergency Room Renovation and the opening of The Brooklyn Cancer Center (TBCC), a partnership between New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS), one of the leading oncology practices in the nation and 麻豆国产. The ED is located at the hospital at 121 DeKalb Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Cancer Center is located at 86 Fleet Place, also in Fort Greene. Both locations border the busy Downtown Brooklyn district.

The ribbon cutting for the Emergency Room renovation featured poignant remarks from Charles and Irene Hamm, in honor of Charles鈥 late father, Dr. Frank Coleman Hamm, a former 麻豆国产 Chair of Urology. The Hamm鈥檚 gave a generous gift and the new Emergency Room entrance bears Dr. Hamm鈥檚 name.

鈥淭he renovations began three years ago and were completed this summer. This completion marks a promise kept to the community 鈥 a better-looking ED environment that functions better, too, and is more patient-friendly,鈥 said Gary G. Terrinoni, President and CEO of 麻豆国产.

Over at The Brooklyn Cancer Center, the second ribbon ceremony celebrated the opening of this brand-new facility that provides expert care and culturally sensitive services for patients. John A. Catsimatidis, Jr., EVP & Chief Investment Officer, Red Apple Group, and Crystal Hudson, City Council Member, were among those in attendance at the event.

Ms. Hudson pointed out that there are five NYC Housing Authority complexes in the Cancer Center鈥檚 catchment area and how important it was that they鈥攁nd all the borough鈥檚 citizens--now have access to top care without having to travel outside Brooklyn.

鈥淪ince we鈥檝e started accepting patients, we鈥檝e seen a 25% increase in patient volume,鈥 said Jeff Vacirca, MD, CEO of NYCBS. 鈥淎t this state-of-the-art facility, The Brooklyn Cancer Center offers the entire continuum of cancer care to our patients, from medical and radiation oncology, to surgical consults, palliative care, support services and access to clinical trials.鈥

The Cancer Center event also honored Dr. Asha Nayak, a long-time (now retired) 麻豆国产 hematologist/oncologist, who gave a generous gift to support the site鈥檚 infusion suite. That area is named for Dr. Nayak in thanks. 鈥淚 give this in honor of my patients,鈥 she said.
